Building a Shipping box for your Plastic Chrome parts When shipping Plastic dash parts, it is important to box them properly. ESPECIALLY the dash bezel.
The following is a photo tutorial on making a box, and packaging your parts. All parts shipped from us to you, will be in this type of box, after 11/02, as we received a customer's parts recently, packed differently, that were broken. This is an inexpensive box to build, or, if you are shipping parts to us for redo, we will build this box for you, and ship it to you, with the packing materials, for a $25.00 deposit, + the shipping cost, which for a empty box is not much. The deposit will be used to offset the cost of your parts restoration.
Start by finding the correct size box. This is a bezel box, which measures 30x14x10 and is the standard 200lbs crush rated box. Next, you want to go to a home supply store (Home Depot, Menards, Lowes ect.) and pick up a few items. You will need Rigid Styrofoam board, sold in 4x8 sheets, or 24"x48" strips or high density pink insulation board, 3/4 inch thickness is all that is required.
foam board adhesive and applicator gun Tape measure, single edge razor blade, and packaging tape And, from an office supply or shipping store bubble wrap and cardboard
Now, build the box.
Tape the bottom of the box together securely, flip it over, and line the inside of the box, on all four sides, and the bottom, with the rigid foam board. Your not building the space shuttle here, so you don't have to fuss making he cuts in the board perfect, but the idea is to have the foam board butt up against itself inside the box, thus greatly strengthening the box against crushing.
Use the box as a guide where you can, and cut the foam board with the razor blade.
Next, glue the foam board to the inside of the box.
Now Pack the box with your parts. Don't spare on the bubble wrap.. compared to dash bezels, it's cheap.. wrap it both lengthways and width-ways, with a a couple of wraps, depending on how big your bubbles are.. this is 1/2 inch bubble wrap.
Next, you want to add some cardboard to the ends of the bezel, to protect the tabs from being broken off. Fold the cardboard around the ends, but not too tightly, and tape securely. And then put it in the box, adding some piece of foam as required, to keep it from moving side to side. Put a layer or two of bubble wrap in the bottom of the box.
And, add some foam board to the top, to beef up the lid, and fill the space, as required.
Tape the top securely, and you have created a solid shipping box for plastic parts. This box is available from us, for a deposit of $25.00, + the cost of shipping it to you. The deposit will then be used to offset the price of your restored parts. Smaller versions of this box can be used to ship radio bezels, and under column covers/armrest backing plates.
